Giới thiệu

Na Tau Waterfall – a two-tier cascade with an unspoiled setting in Doc Lap Valley

Among the limestone mountains of the former Quang Uyen area, a small waterfall lies tucked away in a valley, little known to visitors. Water spills over two rocky tiers, bright white against the forest greenery, in almost complete silence. This is Na Tau Waterfall, a pristine corner of nature in Doc Lap Commune, perfect for those seeking places untouched by crowds.

Where is Na Tau Waterfall?

The waterfall is in Doc Lap Commune (formerly part of Quang Hoa District, and before that, Quang Uyen District). Search for “Na Tau Waterfall” on Google Maps for directions.

The waterfall lies deep in a valley inhabited by local ethnic communities. The access road is still rough, so take care, especially on rainy days.

Please note: Online references to “Na Tau Lake” in the Hoa An area refer to a different place. This article is about Na Tau Waterfall in Doc Lap Commune.

Unspoiled natural beauty

Na Tau Waterfall has two tiers, with water cascading over rocky ledges amid lush mountains and forest. It is neither especially tall nor dramatic, but has a rare, gentle beauty and an untouched feel.

Visitors who have been there share similar impressions: beautiful scenery, fresh air, and a peaceful atmosphere. One visitor said they saw just one motorbike rider pass by during their entire visit. That solitude is part of Na Tau’s charm, like a rough gem yet to be polished.

Visitors also describe the residents living near the waterfall as very friendly and welcoming.

Things to do at Na Tau

Admire the waterfall and unwind: Sit beside the cascade and listen to the water in the stillness for a restorative break.

Picnic and barbecue: The area around the waterfall is a pleasant spot for friends and families to picnic and enjoy an outdoor barbecue.

Explore on foot: The valley around the waterfall is ideal for hiking, taking in the mountain scenery, and seeing the simple rhythms of village life.

Explore a nearby cave: Locals say there is a beautiful cave near the waterfall. If you would like to explore it, ask a local guide to show you the way, and never enter the cave alone.

Take photos: The two white cascades framed by forest and mountains make a beautiful backdrop, especially in the soft light of early morning or late afternoon.

Best time to visit

Rainy season (around May to September): The waterfall is at its fullest, with a striking white flow. Take care, though: the road can be slippery and water levels may rise quickly.

Dry season: Water flow is lower and the roads are easier to navigate, making this a good time for hiking and picnics.

Combine your visit with a Doc Lap–Quang Uyen trip

  • Lung Tao Waterfall (Doc Lap Commune): Take a boat to admire this waterfall in the same commune.
  • Khau Lieu Pass: Associated with the February 1979 Battle of Khau Lieu.
  • Bach Linh Shrine and the Nung Tri Cao Temple (Quang Uyen Commune): A cluster of historic sites in the former Quang Uyen area.
  • Pha Hung viewpoint and Phia Thap incense-making village: Take in panoramic valley views and visit a traditional incense-making village.

Visitor tips

  • The access road is rough: Drive slowly and carefully, and avoid traveling during heavy rain.
  • Rocks around the waterfall are slippery: Wear shoes with good grip and do not climb the waterfall tiers.
  • Do not swim when the water is fast-flowing, and keep a close eye on children near the water.
  • Do not enter the cave without a local guide.
  • Take your rubbish with you: Visitors have reported litter around the waterfall. Clean up after picnics and barbecues to help preserve Na Tau’s unspoiled beauty.
  • Bring drinking water and food as there are no services near the waterfall.
  • Respect local residents and their fields as you pass through the village.

Final Thoughts

Na Tau Waterfall has no signposts or facilities, and it doesn’t appear on many tourist maps. That’s part of what keeps it so pristine and peaceful—qualities many better-known destinations have lost. If you’re passing through Doc Lap, take the turn into the small valley and spend a little time by the falls. When you leave, please leave the place as clean and beautiful as you found it.
